Pay attention to the explanation area at the bottom of each Mesquite window (you can make it larger using the triangle with the "+"). It may give you explanations of buttons, tools and other things.
You can get an explanation for a menu item by holding down the shift key as you select the menu item. The explanation will appear in the explanation area at the bottom of the window.
